Our Board of Directors have a diverse set of business talents. They have a fiduciary duty and the authority to govern on finance, strategy, and risk. They set the tone for Deep Foundations’ Culture of Safety, Innovation and Long-term Relationships.
Stuart Angus – Chairman and Independent Director
Stuart was in the engineering and construction business for 28 years, with 25 of those as CEO, most notably with Proctor and Redfern, as well as Earth Tech (now AECOM). Following that he spent 10 years in the Venture Capital space as a partner with Mclean Watson.
Paul Ostrander – Independent Director
Paul has been involved with the construction industry for over 35 years and was the President and CEO of Holcim (Canada) Inc. He is a Civil Engineer and MBA holder. He began his career at Holcim’s Dufferin Construction division. Paul was a founding partner of CHIC, the company that designed and built Highway 407.
Robert S. Assal – Independent Director
Robert is the Chief Financial Officer & Vice President of Human Resources at Toshiba of Canada. Prior to joining Toshiba 16 years ago, Robert held various positions at IBM, KPMG, and Deloitte. He is an Accounting graduate from the University of Central Florida and is a Canadian C.A./C.P.A as well as a US C.P.A. He also specializes in Canadian Taxes and is a member of the Tax Executive Institute and The Financial Executives International Association.
Martin Kent - Independent Director
Martin is a Chartered Accountant and also has an MBA from Harvard Business School.
He has construction experience in environmental contracting and waste management, as well as significant private equity and investment banking experience. Martin is currently a Senior Vice President with Kensington Capital Partners, a Toronto-based asset management company with $1.2 billion of assets under management.
Bill joined Deep in 1986, and has held progressively senior roles before becoming President and CEO in 2004. Under his leadership and backed by his extensive construction experience, Deep has quadrupled its revenue and grown to a team of more than 300 full-time staff. Since being appointed CEO, Bill has also introduced sophisticated corporate governance processes, with independent board members and regular reporting plans.
Bill has been on Deep`s board of directors since 1996, and has also served on multiple industry boards, including as a Director for the International Association of Foundation Drilling, the President of the Ontario Association of Foundation Specialists, and Chairman of the Fleming College Resource Drilling Advisory Board. Bill is also the Ontario Construction and Real Estate 2017 Entrepreneur of the Year award winner.
Bill is a professional engineer and has a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering, he is also a Certified Corporate Director. Bill is the co-inventor of a pile driving safety device and holds an international patent for the device.
Mauro joined Deep in 1994, serving as Chief Estimator, Safety Manager, and VP Sales and Contracts before taking over the President`s role in 2013.
Mauro has held an Ontario Professional Engineer`s License since 1997, and has a Bachelors Degree of Applied Science from the University of Toronto. He is currently on the Board of Directors for the Heavy Construction Association of Toronto (HCAT) and is the Treasurer of the International Association of Foundation Drilling (ADSC)
Ron joined Deep in 2013, previously serving for 8 years on the Deep Board of Directors as an independent director and then as a chairman. Prior to joining Deep Ron was the President and CEO of Quantec Geoscience. Before that, he was the General Manager and Director of Design Build at Earth Tech (previously Proctor and Redfern), which was acquired by AECOM in 2008.
Ron has a Bachelors Degree in Engineering from Western University and is a professional Engineer.
Michael joined Deep in 1997, and has worked in all areas of the Company, including as a field engineer, supervisor, equipment manager, and operations manager. He serves on the Board of Deep, and recently completed 2 terms as the President of the Ontario Association of Foundation Specialists.
Michael has a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Toronto and is a Professional Engineer.
Dave is a Senior Supervisor at Deep. He joined the company full-time in 1985. He has served in a number of roles including Estimator, Project Manager, and General Superintendent. Since 2011, he has supervised many of our transit infrastructure projects.
