Deep Foundations was established in 1971 by Bill Lardner and David Miller. From the beginning they were committed to seeking new and innovative ways to provide the products and services needed by the construction industry.

The company’s founders developed or introduced a number of innovations to the Toronto construction scene including soil anchor tie backs for external excavation support, secant walls for the protection of adjacent building foundations, hydraulic caisson drills, and auger cast piles.

David Miller built remarkably strong and dedicated field crews and outfitted them with modern, well maintained equipment.

Bill Lardner is a past member of the Standing Committee for Structural Design and the National Building Code and the National Research Council. He is the recipient of the Meyerhof Award from the Canadian Geotechnical Society in recognition of his contributions to Canadian science and engineering.

Peter McDonald and Bill Starke are the two main principals continuing to operate the business in the tradition of our founders.

After more than 38 years and 3,000 projects across Canada, the United States and the Caribbean, we can say we are on track with our goals.

Our world-class projects include: the CN Tower, Skydome, Ontario Place, Toronto City Hall, the TTC expansion and Exhibition Place.

We have received numerous awards for the best safety record in our class in North America and continue to raise the bar for innovation, safety and efficiency. Modern well-maintained equipment and a highly-skilled workforce are integral elements in the firm’s approach to achieving these goals.
